TWELVE TIPS FOR PARENTING TEENAGERS.
Teach by example. Be the person you want her to be because you have been her role model since the day she was born.
Remember you are his parent. He can have many friends but, at the most, only two parents. It can be both difficult and wonderful. Never argue with a teenager because even when you win, you lose. However, be prepared to discuss whatever she wants to talk about. Become computer literate so you can monitor his social media and internet activity as best you can. Always have a good reason for refusing to give your permission or assistance. "Because I said so" is not good enough. Deep down, she knows she needs your guidance and support even if she doesn't want it. Give her the advice and she will thank you later. CLICK HERE FOR BOOK REVIEW.

To reduce the chance of conflict occurring, begin your comments with "I" rather than "you". Assume that your teenager is handling his problems the best way he knows how. Most people do. If you are unhappy with the way she is acting, criticise the actions, not her. Be prepared to apologise if you think you have over reacted, or if you were unfair. That is what you would expect from him. Always, always, always treat her with respect, even when you think her behaviour is disgusting. Even with his fingers in his ears, he can still hear your opinion and may take notice if you calmly tell him once. |
